Kyusu
Tea House
Rebrand

This rebranding project for Kyusu Japanese Tea House represents a vibrant fusion of traditional and modern aesthetics, tailored to celebrate the rich culture of the Japanese tea ceremony. Specializing in matcha and a curated selection of Japanese teas, alongside traditional tea treats, Kyusu aims to offer an authentic experience that educates and delights its patrons.

The rebrand involved crafting a comprehensive branding system and designing a new logo from multiple concept drawings, reflecting the elegant and tranquil spirit of a tea ceremony. My personal passion for painting played a pivotal role in this project. I chose to print the menus on warm-toned 11x17 cardstock, folded into a trifold brochure, which served as a canvas for my watercolor art. The menu design features scans of my watercolor paintings, intentionally reminiscent of matcha stains and washes, marrying the artistic fluidity of watercolors with the organic essence of tea.

Deliverables for Kyusu included a full brand suite—menu, brand swipe file, restaurant and sign mockups, as well as additional items such as coasters, business cards, and custom candles to enhance the brand experience. Completed in the spring of 2023, this project not only revitalized the brand but also infused it with a unique artistic narrative, making Kyusu a standout in its niche market. The design process was an exhilarating opportunity to blend my background in painting with graphic design, resulting in a visually compelling and culturally rich brand identity.
